Sedation
Endodontics
Sedation endodontics uses safe, controlled sedation techniques to help you stay relaxed and comfortable during your treatment. It minimizes anxiety and discomfort, allowing procedures—such as root canals and other advanced treatments—to be performed efficiently and with ease.
At Direct Endodontics Inc, Dr. Terryl Crawford is highly trained in oral conscious sedation and nitrous oxide. For patients who require a deeper level of relaxation, we also coordinate with a dental anesthesiologist to provide IV sedation—ensuring a safe, calm, and stress-free experience.
Sedation endodontics may be especially beneficial if you:
- Experience fear or anxiety about dental treatment
- Have a sensitive or overactive gag reflex
- Do not respond well to local anesthesia
- Have a low tolerance for discomfort
- Are undergoing complex or lengthy procedures
- Have special needs or a medical condition
- Find it difficult to relax or remain comfortable in the dental chair
Types of Sedation Endodontics
Oral Conscious Sedation
Oral conscious sedation involves taking a prescribed pill about one hour before your procedure. As it takes effect, you’ll feel deeply relaxed and at ease—many patients even fall asleep. After treatment, you may have little to no memory of the procedure, making it a preferred option for those with dental anxiety.
Nitrous Oxide
Nitrous oxide, commonly known as “laughing gas,” is inhaled through a small mask and provides immediate relaxation. You will remain awake and responsive during treatment, but feel calm and comfortable throughout. It can be used alone or combined with other sedation methods based on your needs.
IV Sedation
IV sedation is administered directly into the bloodstream by a qualified dental anesthesiologist. Its effects are immediate, placing you in a deeply relaxed “twilight” state. Many patients drift into a light sleep and have little to no recollection of the procedure afterward.
